Set up a Dino Server
Prepare the Windows machines
- Make sure the windows version you're using is windows 2000 or windows XP, 256 mb of memory, and a 1 GHZ cpu is recommended.
- Install the TCP/IP internet protocol, and make sure you can PING every station. (No microsoft clients, or file sharing is needed)
- configure your firewall and open tcp/udp ports 12000 -> 12005 (in some cases ports below 12015 are also used)
- configure your firewall to allow the ping command
Prepare the Dino software
In theory the only thing you need to set up a Dino system is the "dino.exe" program. But then the program will have NO data at all. Ideal is to start from a set of base files with a minimun configuration.
Setup the base files with a minimal configuration
- Create a c:\dinodata\dino\base folder
- copy the base files (*.sdb) with minimal configuration in this folder (if there is already a HISTORY folder DELETE THIS)
Setup the application
- Create a c:\dinoexe folder
- Copy the file dino.exe in this folder
- Create a shortcut towards the desktop
- launch the shortcut
- password = Setup
- mark the combo box next to server
- fill in the "site name", which must be unique
- press ok
Set up a Dino client
- Create a c:\dinoexe folder
- Copy the file dino.exe in this folder
- Create a shortcut towards the desktop
- launch the shortcut
- password = Setup
- mark the combo box next to client
- fill in the "ip adress of the Dino server" next
- press ok
Every new client must be validated on the server
