Restore server

The advantage of the Dino system is that every system in the network has a complete copy of the server (with the exception of the history and the ticket numbering). So if the server should crash, and a restore is necessary.

  • Just copy the following folders from another system that WAS ONLINE (to make sure it has the most recent data), and put in on the new server

c:\dinodata c:\dinoexe

  • Give the new machine the same IP address an name of the previous server.
  • Create a shortcut on the desktop of the c:\dinoexe\dino.exe file and put the same shortcut in startup folder.
  • reboot the machine
  • The software detects NO configuration file and will ask for the SETUP password to enter the setup screen.
  • In the setup screen, "mark the SERVER option" and fill in the SITE NAME and press ok
  • Once the application is started, you only need to validate the the connected clients. Double Click the word "Clients" at the top of the screen.

A list with unvalidated clients should appear. Mark the clients and press the button "Vallidate".

Remark: The history files are located on the server in the c:\dinodata\oyyofiles or c:\dinoreview

These files are NOT synced towards the rest of the network, and should be backupped and restorerd manually. these are just files -> no database required.

Remark 2: The ticket numbering is located in the folder c:\dino\obj

this is a folder which is not synced (because every system has its own numbering) If the folder could not be restored -> the ticket numbering will restart from 1

It is always a good idea to take a backup on an external storage device. This way you are also 'protected' from Hard Disk crashes.

All data of past sales are NOT included in your backup. If you want to back up these as well,
you will have to do this manually. More info on that can be found here... (OYYOFILES)

April 20, 2006, at 05:01 PM by Jeronimo - How to make a backup from your database and restore your database from a backup.
Added lines 1-22:

BACKUP

Making a backup of your DINO database is quite easy:

  • Go to Dino
  • Go to Init (in the bottom left corner of the screen)
  • Click on Setup (in the bottom part of the screen)
  • Choose the Tools tab (in the upper left corner)
  • Use the orange button Export + ZIP
(The color might differ slightly depending on the version of the software)
  • In the Windows dialog box that appears, you can now select where you want to Save the backup

It is advised to take a backup on a regular basis (f.e. everytime you made a lot of changes). It is always a good idea o take a backup on an external storage device. This way you are also 'protected' from Hard Disk crashes. All data of past sales are NOT included in your backup. If you want to back up these as well, you will have to do this manually.
